Crawley Wasps LFC reserves/youth round-up: Martin scores on brave return to football

Zoe Martin scored on her return to football but Crawley Wasps reserves were beaten 2-1 at Ashford on Sunday.

Skipper Martin, 34, was playing her first game since husband Carl – an experienced former racer – was paralysed after a motorbike track day accident in September.

Her goal five minutes before the break cancelled out Ashford’s opener, but the Kent side regained the lead quickly afterwards.

Despite having plenty of possession, Wasps were unable to convert it into goals and slipped to defeat.

Wasps’ Under-16s lost 5-0 to Ringmer Rovers in the semi-final of the Sussex Challenge Cup.

However, Mark Hills’ side have a second chance to reach a final – they have been drawn against Withdean Youth in the League Cup semis, to be played on Sunday 5 March.
