Newly-promoted Crawley Wasps reserves put in a battling performance on Sunday but were beaten 2-1 at Eastbourne Ladies.
The Wasps goal was scored by debutant Amy Clark, who has just joined the club from Rottingdean Village, where she had been top scorer last season.
She levelled on 31 minutes from Shaney Bolton’s assist, after Eastbourne had gone ahead direct from a corner. The hosts won it with 20 minutes to play.
Goalkeeper Hope Laker, who had made her debut for the first team in the Women’s FA Cup last weekend, was named the Thales player of the match.
All three of the club’s youth teams in action on Sunday were also beaten, with the Under-16s losing 4-1 at Southdown.
Having gone 1-0 down, Wasps equalised thanks to Lily Beckett’s 25-yard effort which flew into the top right-hand corner, but Southdown prevailed.
Jodie Barker was named as the Basepoint Crawley player of the match.
Wasps Under-15s, who are playing boys teams this season in a mixed-sex league after dominating their division for several years, suffered a heavy defeat in the League Cup to Hangleton Rangers, from a division above.
Meanwhile, Wasps Under-12s were beaten 11-0 by Chichester City Girls, with an excellent performance from Lucy Neill in goal.
