Crawley Wasps remain top of the London & South East Premier Division despite being held to a 1-1 draw by mid-table Aylesford on Sunday.
Wasps had beaten the Kent side 10-0 in November’s home fixture but despite a virtual full-strength side could not turn their dominance into goals this time round.
Top scorer Rosanne Fine went close early on with a shot on the turn while Naomi Cole’s free-kick went just over and Jade Elphick had a low shot saved.
On the stroke of half-time, Fine was denied by a brilliant save from Aylesford keeper Zara Chapman.
Fine and Cole both had further chances in the second half before Wasps finally broke the deadlock with 20 minutes to play, Niamh Stephenson’s shot falling to Holly Turbill, who swivelled and fired home.
But Aylesford quickly levelled, a free-kick played into the box headed in by Zara McAiney.
Wasps’ Lauren Callaghan was sent-off for dissent but the visitors still had chances to win it – Aylesford cleared off the line and Cole smacked the post in the final minute.
Wasps: Poleykett; Duncan, Niamh Stephenson, Walker, Ward; N. Smith, Elphick, Cole, Callaghan; Turbill; Fine. Subs: Gillstroem, Currier, Worsfold, Davies, Boyd.
Faye Rabson scored in the opening seconds of the match for Crawley Wasps reserves but they ended up losing 3-2 to high-flying Parkwood Rangers in the South East Counties Women’s League. Substitute Toni Smith reduced the arrears with a late penalty.
