MATCH REPORT: Crawley Wasps 10 Herne Bay 0

In-form Crawley Wasps recorded their biggest league win for more than seven years as they demolished Herne Bay 10-0 on Sunday.

Roseanne Fine scored five, including a hat-trick in the first half, and there was also a goal four minutes into her debut for midfielder Ariana Fleischman.

Holly Turbill, Rebekah Dunt and Danielle Boyd added to the rout in the second half, as Wasps almost matched their 11-0 thrashing of Whitstable Town back in April 2009.

The tone was set in the opening minutes when Holly Walker’s header from a corner was nodded in by Fleischman.

Lauren Callaghan was outstanding in the first half and created the next four goals – she first played in Fine to score after 13 minutes and later saw a cross turned in by an unfortunate Herne Bay defender.

The Callaghan and Fine partnership worked twice more before the break to put Wasps 5-0 up.

Having bagged three for herself in the first half, Fine turned provider for recent signing Turbill, and then got on the scoresheet again from Suzanne Davies’ cross.

Wasps made it 8-0 on 65 minutes when Dunt beat a hesitant goalkeeper to a long ball and while that was scrappy, there was no doubting the quality of Boyd’s finish as she clipped in a shot from the edge of the box.

Fine completed the scoring by getting on the end of Nicholle Smith’s cross, Wasps warming up nicely for Sunday’s top of the table clash with unbeaten Leyton Orient.
