Under 15 Match Report – Withdean Hawks 3 – 3 Crawley Wasps

Crawley Wasps U15 travelled to Brighton to take on Withdean Hawks, which luckily given the weather was played on a 3G Surface – a first for our girls.

Wasps took a strong squad of 15 to the game, and after our minute silence for Remembrance Day, got proceedings underway and immediately looked dangerous with our new formation.

The front three three of Lily Beckett, Topaz Luxford and Nicky Durling all worked hard attacking the Hawks’ goal and in the first 10 minutes Wasps were well on top. A great ball played in from Nicky found Beth Clawson, who crossed the ball into Lily Beckett and a lay-off to Jodie Barker allowed the latter to put Wasps 1-0 up with a sweet left-footed strike.

Hawks tried to get back into the game but on 20 minutes some more great link-up play between Beckett and Barker found Luxford, who went through the Hawks’ defence and put the visitors 2-0 up.  Just before half-time Hawks beat goalkeeper Feitong Wilde to bring it back to 2-1.

With some changes at the break, the girls were playing some great football but let Hawks back into the game and suddenly we were back to 2-2. But Wasps never gave up and great play down either wing from Caitlin Baigent and Clawson made life difficult for the hosts.

After 65 minutes Wasps were back in front. Chloe Coaker and Mollie Martin played the ball out of defence and linked up with Barker, who found Beckett and the forward beat the offside trap to fire home Wasps’ third.  As the clock ticked down, Hawks were trying everything to get back into this game and as Wasps went up for a corner a quick break allowed the hosts to find the equaliser.
